Reasons why kiteboarding and kitesurfing lessons should be taken on the largest lakes

All the kiteboarding instructors in Minnesota share one common location to teach the majority summer kiteboarding lessons; that location is Lake Mille Lacs near Brainerd. We teach at this location because of the shallow sand bars and smooth, consistent wind. Learning to kiteboard on a big lake like Lake Mille Lacs makes life easier on students taking kiteboarding lessons; with smooth wind it is much easier to keep the kites flying (especially for beginners). When you are trying to learn to kiteboard on the lakes around the Minneapolis and St. Paul area you have to deal with factors that are beyond your control. Keeping a kite flying in the gusty winds on smaller lakes can be challenge even for experienced Kiteboarders, and makes learning to kiteboard very difficult for a beginner. The next challenge is that the large number of people utilizing the lakes around the twin cities area in the summer creates dangerous obstacles that you must avoid. Aside from these two factors there are no sandbars on the lakes around the twin cities that are big enough to provide an adequate amount of space to learn the required kiteboarding maneuvers in a safe fashion.

Kitesurfing Lessons

For the more experienced riders looking to try something new, we also offer Kitesurfing lessons on Lake Superior, these kitesurfing lessons are primarily designed to teach you how to surf waves using a kite. Kitesurfing lessons with Superior Kiteboarding school also teach the skills you need to know when launching kites, and riding in big waves. Kitesurfing lessons are offered in a few different locations on Lake Superior including Park Point in Duluth Minnesota, Herbster, cornucopia, Port Wing, and the Apostle Islands near Ashland and Bayfield in Wisconsin. When conditions dictate our instructors will also teach kitesurfing lessons in the upper peninsula of Michigan near Ironwood.
